Tours and Visits
We are open 7 days a week and encourage schools, coach, seniors and service groups and individuals to visit the Candle Shack, where they can learn about and observe an age-old candle-making process. You can take home skills and tricks to try yourself and may even have the opportunity for some hands-on experience decorating your own candle.
Please phone or email to arrange a visiting time, as the wax takes over an hour to melt and be ready.
A fee of $5 per person is applied to groups of 10 or more. This includes an extensive demonstration about how our candles are made and decorated, as well as morning/afternoon tea comprising tea, coffee, biscuits and cake. Weather permitting, this is served in our garden. We do offer this for groups of less than 10 people in this way. However, shorter versions of the demonstration are available (see below).
For school groups we are able to tailor the demonstration and information for the age and/or topic being researched or studied. We have children as young as 6 or 7 years, and we have High School students studying tourism, manufacturing, marketing and technology visit us to date. Students receive a small bag with information relating to their age/topic, samples of paraffin and beeswax, wick, websites and, depending on age and topic, a little other paraphernalia.
During holidays and long weekends a shorter version of our demonstration is always available. There is no charge for this, but visitors are encouraged to make a coin donation to our local Bushfire Brigade. It's wise to call beforehand to ensure the demonstration is available on any given holiday, as sometimes life intervenes. It takes over an hour to melt the wax for the demonstration if we are not actually making candles that day.
Discounts for seniors are available.
We are situated not far from the Princes Highway about 30kms south of Nowra (which is 160km south of Sydney). Leave the highway at either the St Georges Basin turnoff or the Basin View turnoff, as shown in the map below -
